How to Become A Christian

Have you ever wondered what it means to become a Christian?

Maybe there are things in your life that don't seem to be going very well, and you've tried lots of solutions, but none seems to work. Everyone has questions about their own lives. If you haven't found answers that work for you, why not listen to what God has to say?

God's Word has the answers that are grounded in truth and love. Jesus has answers to problems just like the ones you face every day.

How to Become A Christian

You're not here by accident. Jesus loves you, and He wants you to have a personal relationship with Him. There is just one thing that separates you from God. That one thing is sin.

People tend to divide themselves into groups - good people and bad people. But God says that every person that has ever lived is a sinner, and any sin separates us from God. That includes you and me.

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

According to man's rules, people should be punished or rewarded according to how good they are, and it might be hard for you to understand how Jesus could love you when other people don't seem to. But I have great news for you! Jesus DOES love you! More than you can ever imagine! And there's nothing you can do to make him stop!

Are you thinking that you should make things right in your life before you come to Jesus? Many people feel that way, but that's not what God says!

"God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

For you to come to God you have to get rid of your sin problem. But God says that you can't make yourself right with God by being a better person. God wants to save you JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU!

"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:5

It's God's grace that allows you to come to Him - not your efforts to "clean up your life" or work your way to Heaven. You can't earn it. It's a free gift.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

For you to come to God, your sin must be paid for. God's gift to you is His son, Jesus, who paid the debt for you.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

Jesus paid the price for your sin and mine by giving His life on Calvary's cross. God brought Jesus back from the dead and paved the way for you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus.

All that's left for you to do is to accept the gift that Jesus is holding out for you right now.

"If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10

God says that if you believe in His son, Jesus, you can live forever with Him in glory.

"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

Are you ready to accept the gift of eternal life that Jesus is offering you right now? If it is your sincere desire to ask Jesus to come into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God from your heart:

"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."

If you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please let us know. We want to rejoice in what God has done in your life and help you to grow spiritually.

These are things I have found in my travels through the WWW and have and have received from friends, family and some that I have written myself.

I am going to post them here. Most of them I don’t know who wrote them, if I do, I of course will give credit where credit is due.

As per usual if you recognize something and you can give information on its creation, please don’t hesitate to let me know.  Also, if you have things you would like to share here at Triple “C”, I will post it if it is appropriate for the site, this will be determined on a case by case basis.

How does a person become a Christian? On the most basic level, people become Christians when they accept 3 things about Jesus Christ.

  1. When we accept Jesus Christ as the owner of our whole life, physically and spiritually, and acknowledge the authority of Jesus in every aspect of it. In fact the most ancient Christian declaration of faith was simply "Jesus is Lord!"

  2. When we accept Jesus Christ as the only Savior of our soul. That we are forgiven of our sins and given eternal life, based not on our own good works or intentions, but on his loving sacrifice for us.

  3. When we accept a personal relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. God does not want a simple mental affirmation of truth from us. He also wants us to return to Him a portion of the love that he has lavished upon us.

Now to get to the point of accepting these things, there are generally many contributing factors. Some of those factors can be: seeing the truths of Jesus Christ modeled in the lives of Christians, being convinced of the truth about Jesus as taught in the Bible, working through the intellectual and historical issues of truth in Christianity, and personal experiences where Jesus has intervened in our life.

One of the most basic things that we must understand in order to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is to know what God has accomplished for us in Jesus. The following outline gives a good summary of what God has done. [Note: God is neither male nor female, but we have used the traditional masculine pronoun in reference to God for ease of reading]

God

Humanity

Christ

  • God became a human being in the person of Jesus to restore our life and fellowship with Him. He walked the earth as a Jewish man in the first century A.D. (John 1:14, Colossians 1:19-20, Luke 3:1)
  • Jesus Christ, who lived a life without sin, died on the cross to take the punishment for our rebellion against God. Only through his sacrifice can we be forgiven for our sins. (Isaiah 53:5-6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 5:8)
  • Jesus rose from the dead, in order that we also might also be raised to eternal life with God. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 6:5)

My Response

  • I must confess my sin and repent, turning away from my life of rebellion. (Matthew 4:17, Isaiah 55:7)
  • I must believe in what God has done for me in Jesus Christ. (John 1:12)
  • I must personally receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and accept a loving relationship with Him. (Revelation 3:20)
  • When I begin my new relationship with Jesus Christ, I also gain a new relationship with other believers. Part of this new life means that I am baptized into the Christian community and enjoy a new level of fellowship with the "family" of God, the Church. (Acts 2:38-47, Mark 3:35)

Cost to Me

  • Nothing! My salvation has been paid for. There is no cost to me. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • Everything! I must give my life totally to Jesus Christ and desire to obey Him. (Romans 12:1-2)

Cost to God

  • He gave His Son Jesus Christ, to be killed for my sake. (John 3:16)

Revelations

OLD TESTAMENT NOTES

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made.  John 1:1-3

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

God demonstrated His love by sending His promised Son, the Savior and Messiah, Jesus Christ, and allowing Him to be crucified. God paid for our sins Himself. The Lord is good, just and merciful beyond our understanding.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16

Seek God now. Humbly ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Jesus Christ paid the full price for sin on a Roman cross almost 2000 years ago. Seek His free gift of forgiveness and unending love.

Jesus Christ said: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."  Matthew 7:7,8

Reject Jesus Christ and pay for your sin yourself, forever alone, forever without God...

"The great day of the Lord is near. It is near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on that day will be bitter...I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord's wrath. In the fire of His jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for He will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth...Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what He commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger." Zephaniah 1:14-18  2:3

Most think heaven awaits them. The One who rose from the grave after 3 days said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6   God the Son came as a sinless man. Philipians 2:5-8 He gave up His human life to save ours. He said that His death was the only acceptable payment for sin. He is our ONLY way to God. He died to give our spirit eternal life. Without Him, we are spiritually dead. Ephesians 2:1-2

He declared: "I  tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."  John 3:3 Are you truly "born again"? John 3:3  Does the Spirit of Christ now dwell within you? John 14:20 & Romans 8:9  Have you been adopted into God's family forever through faith in our Redeemer and Lord, Jesus Christ? Galatians 4:5  It is critical you make certain!

God can be found through His true and complete Word, the Bible. Please, seek Him now, before it is too late. Seek Him through His Word to you, the
Bible.
